The Repainted Car

People v. Benny Kauff (1921)

Charge: Auto theft - outfielder accused of stealing, repainting and selling a carCourt: New York state courtDocket: Off the Bench

Did the ballplayer knowingly take part in stealing and selling the car?

The facts

A New York big-league outfielder also ran an auto business on the side. Prosecutors said he and two employees stole a car, repainted it and sold it to a buyer. He said his employees had shown him a false bill of sale and he did not know the car was stolen. He also offered an alibi that he was at dinner with his wife.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
