Was the retired pitcher legally insane when he robbed the jewelry store?

The facts

The day after Christmas 2005, a retired star relief pitcher handed a clerk at a mall jewelry store a note demanding cash and jewelry and claiming he had a gun. He was unarmed, left with about $170, and surrendered to mall security minutes later. He was taking about a dozen prescription drugs, including antidepressants, mood stabilizers and heart medications. Four psychiatrists examined him.
