What Most Drivers Know
Diaz v. United States (2024)
Charge: Importing methamphetamineCourt: Supreme Court of the United StatesState: CaliforniaDocket: Night Session
The facts
A woman drove into the country from across the southern border. Officers found 56 packages of methamphetamine, just over 54 pounds, hidden in the door panels and the boot. She said the car was her boyfriend's and she had no idea the drugs were there. She had met him only two or three times and did not know his phone number or address. The crime requires proof she knew. Over her objection, the prosecution called a federal agent who told the jury that in most cases the driver knows the drugs are in the car.
You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
