The facts
On December 22, 1991, after a church service, a minister and his wife returned to their home in Fayette County, Alabama. Two intruders had cut the electricity and telephone lines. One attacker was seen holding what looked like a sword above his head. The minister was fatally wounded and his wife injured; guns, cash, checks and jewellery were taken. One accused man gave recorded statements to police in Tennessee and Alabama admitting he took part but saying his accomplice did the killing and wounding.
