Buried Box Ransom

Krist v. State (1970)

Charge: Kidnapping for ransomCourt: Supreme Court of GeorgiaState: GeorgiaDocket: Ransom

The facts

A young woman was taken by force from where she was staying and carried out of the county against her will. She was put inside a box and buried in the ground. The man who took her then demanded money in return for telling anyone where she was. The ransom was paid and he gave up the location. Under the law he was charged with, kidnapping for ransom carried the death penalty unless the jury recommended mercy.
