People v. Joe Pepitone (1986)
Charge: Drug and weapons possession - cocaine, pills and a pistol found in a car carrying a former star (charges against the passenger)Court: New York state court, BrooklynDocket: Rain Delay
Can a passenger be convicted of possessing drugs found in a car he says he knew nothing about?
The facts
Police in Brooklyn pulled over a car for running a red light. Inside were three men, including a well-known former big-league slugger. Officers searched the car and found about nine ounces of cocaine, 344 sedative pills, a kit for free-basing cocaine, a pistol, and roughly $6,300 in cash. The former player insisted he had no idea any drugs or a gun were in the car. Prosecutors indicted him on serious possession charges and the case went to trial.
You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
