People v. Molinas (1963)

Charge: Conspiracy, bribery, and attempted subornation of perjuryCourt: New York Supreme Court, New York County (trial); Appellate Division (appeal)State: New YorkDocket: The Fix

The facts

A former college and professional basketball player, who had since become a lawyer, is accused of running a scheme for several years. Prosecutors say he and three associates paid college players around the country to control the scores of their games. He faces counts of conspiracy, of bribing players, and of trying to get a witness to lie under oath. Much of the case against him rests on tape recordings. He says the trial he got was not a fair one.
