The Bedroom Anesthetic

People v. Murray (2014)

Charge: Involuntary manslaughterCourt: California Court of Appeal, Second District (trial: Los Angeles County Superior Court)State: CaliforniaDocket: Bad Medicine

The facts

A doctor was hired to care for a wealthy client. For about two months he gave the client a powerful surgical anesthetic every night, at home, to help him sleep. The client said nothing else worked. The bedroom had none of the monitoring equipment a hospital uses with that drug. One morning the client died from it. The doctor says he drew up a syringe, left the room to make phone calls, and the patient injected the fatal dose himself. Involuntary manslaughter means causing death by gross carelessness, without intending harm.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
