The facts
Police chased a driver for eight miles after he sped along a freeway. When he stopped, officers ordered him to lie face down. They say he resisted. An officer fired a stun gun, then officers struck him with batons many times over about ninety seconds while a sergeant supervised. He suffered a broken leg and facial fractures. A bystander filmed the whole thing. Four officers were charged in state court with assault with a deadly weapon and using excessive force. They say the force was needed to control a suspect who kept resisting.
