The facts
A prisoner at a minimum-security honour farm said another inmate had sexually assaulted him and that a group had threatened to kill him if he told the guards. After a phone call repeating the threat, he walked off the farm. He was caught two days later, still in prison clothing. He was charged with escape. At trial the judge told the jury to disregard his reasons for leaving and refused to explain the defence of necessity.
