Bleach at the Dialysis Clinic
Saenz v. State (2014)
Charge: Capital murder of five patients; aggravated assaultCourt: Texas Court of Appeals, Fourth District (San Antonio)State: TexasDocket: Bad Medicine
The facts
A licensed vocational nurse worked at a dialysis clinic. Within a few weeks, five patients died and several others suffered sudden collapses during treatment. Two co-workers say they saw her draw bleach into syringes and inject it into two patients' dialysis lines. Tests found bleach in some lines and syringes, and a chemical marker of bleach in patients' blood. She says she used syringes only to mix cleaning solution because the usual measuring cups had run out.
