Who Gets the Lake
State v. Anderson (2018)
Charge: Second-degree murder (self-defense)Court: Minnesota District Court, Chisago CountyState: MinnesotaDocket: Overboard
Was shooting the approaching neighbor a reasonable use of deadly force, or was there a safe way out of it?
The facts
The Defendant had let several people fish from his mother's land on a lake. A neighbor complained that their trucks were parking on his property to reach the water. The Defendant drove down to the spot. The neighbor rode up on a quad bike, put it across the front of the truck and told him to lower his window. He was angry, made threats, then got off and came at the truck. The Defendant shot him once in the chest.
