The Sect Leader's Enforcers

United States v. Beasley (1996)

Charge: Racketeering conspiracy (agreeing to run a group through crimes)Court: U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh CircuitState: FloridaDocket: True Believers

The facts

The leader of a religious group taught that white people were devils. Prosecutors said he formed a secret inner group whose members had to kill white people and bring back body parts as proof. Former members testified that he ordered killings, including of a member who tried to leave. The accused testified in his own defence. His lawyers said the government was attacking his religion. They argued the evidence showed only his innocent link to the group, not an agreement to commit crimes.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
