Bombs Before the Bank Jobs
United States v. Berry (2010)
Charge: Bank robbery and bombings with pipe bombsCourt: U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth CircuitState: WashingtonDocket: True Believers
The facts
Pipe bombs went off at a newspaper office and, months later, at a family-planning clinic. Each time, masked gunmen then robbed the same nearby bank. Three men were arrested during a later robbery attempt in another state. Searches found stolen vans, jeans like a robber's, bomb fuses, a stun gun and letters like those left at the scenes. A lab test linked buckshot from one bomb to the accused's auto shop. He says that bullet-lead test was flawed and new evidence should undo his conviction.
