United States v. Coke (2011)

Charge: Racketeering conspiracy; conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeeringCourt: U.S. District Court, S.D.N.Y.State: New YorkDocket: Kingpins

The facts

A man is accused of running, for nearly twenty years, a gang based in a poor neighbourhood in a foreign country. Prosecutors say its members sold marijuana, cocaine and crack in two big American cities and smuggled guns bought in America back home. He is said to have kept control by violence and fear, and to have arranged the beating of a drug dealer over an unpaid debt. Police in his own country arrested him and handed him over to American authorities to face a racketeering conspiracy charge.
