The Designer Steroid Lab

United States v. Conte (2005)

Charge: Conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and money launderingCourt: U.S. District Court, N.D. Cal.State: CaliforniaDocket: The Fix

The facts

A man ran a small nutrition laboratory. Prosecutors said that for about four years he supplied elite athletes in track, baseball and football with banned performance drugs: a designer steroid taken by mouth and a testosterone cream rubbed on the skin. He is said to have used code words and false labels to hide it, given athletes cover stories, and run the money through personal bank accounts rather than the business. The laundering charge needs proof he hid where the cash came from.
