Charge: Conspiracy to defraud the United States, paying and receiving health-care kickbacks, money laundering, federal-program bribery and obstruction of justiceCourt: U.S. District Court, Southern District of FloridaState: FloridaDocket: False Claims

The facts

The accused owned a network of nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. Prosecutors say that for nearly twenty years he paid doctors to send patients to his facilities, then moved those patients from one facility to another so he could bill government health programmes for services they did not need or never received. They also say he bribed an employee of the state inspection agency for advance warning of inspections, and tried to obstruct the investigation. He is charged with conspiracy, kickbacks, money laundering and bribery.
