The Thirteen-Year Enterprise

United States v. Falcon (1996)

Charge: Continuing criminal enterprise; conspiracy to import and distribute cocaineCourt: U.S. District Court, S.D. Fla.State: FloridaDocket: Kingpins

The facts

Two men are accused of running a huge cocaine importing business for thirteen years, from the late 1970s into the early 1990s. The indictment charges them with leading a 'continuing criminal enterprise', a big drug business, and with conspiring to import and sell cocaine. After a long trial, the judge throws out seven counts for lack of evidence before the jury even considers them. The jury must decide the remaining drug counts. To convict, it must be sure beyond reasonable doubt that these two men ran the business.
