The Embassy Bombings Helper

United States v. Ghailani (2013)

Charge: Conspiracy to bomb U.S. embassies and related murder countsCourt: U.S. Court of Appeals, Second CircuitState: New YorkDocket: Blowback

The facts

Two U.S. embassies in East Africa were bombed on the same morning. Hundreds of people died and thousands were hurt. Years later a man captured overseas was brought to a civilian federal court, the first prisoner from a military detention camp to be tried there. Prosecutors say he was part of the bombers' logistics team: he bought metal gas tanks, a truck and blasting caps, then left the country before the attack. The dispute is whether he knew what those items were for. The jury must decide more than 280 counts, including murder and conspiracy.
