The Army Doctor Who Opened Fire

United States v. Hasan (2023)

Charge: 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murderCourt: U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed ForcesState: TexasDocket: Court-Martial

The facts

An army psychiatrist walked into a crowded processing centre on his own base and began shooting with a handgun fitted with a laser sight. He killed and wounded dozens of people. He had practised at a range and bought special ammunition beforehand. Police shot him and he was left paralysed. At his court-martial he insisted on representing himself and did not contest that he was the shooter. On appeal he argued his choice to go without lawyers was not truly voluntary and that the court was wrongly closed and the panel biased.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
