The facts
The presiding judge of a big city's traffic court ran a scheme for about fourteen years, prosecutors said. He took bribes to throw out drunk-driving cases. He killed parking tickets in return for free use of cars and of a copying machine. He collected monthly payments from lawyers so that they could hunt for clients inside his courthouse. He also filed tax returns that left the money out. He denied that what he received were bribes at all.
