Machine Gun in the Cabin

United States v. McNally (1973)

Charge: Aircraft piracy (two counts)Court: U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (trial: E.D. Mo.)State: MissouriDocket: Air Piracy

The facts

A man armed with a machine gun hijacked a passenger jet. He demanded $502,000 in cash and parachute gear and ordered the plane back to the airport it had left. Once he had the money and a parachute, he jumped from the aircraft over farmland in another state. The money, parachute and gun were later found in an open field. Five days later he was arrested at home. He says heavy news coverage made a fair trial impossible, the judge refused to appoint the psychiatrist he wanted, and the search of his home was unlawful.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
