United States v. Newman (2014)

Charge: Securities fraud and conspiracyCourt: U.S. Court of Appeals, Second CircuitState: New YorkDocket: Wall Street

The facts

The two accused managed money at two hedge funds. Secret earnings news from insiders at two computer companies passed through a chain of analysts before reaching them, three or four steps from the source. Their funds made about $72 million trading on it. One insider had received career advice from the friend he tipped. Another insider and his tippee were family friends from church. The accused say they never knew the insiders got anything in return. The judge refused to tell the jury that such knowledge was required.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
