United States v. Robbins (2024)

Charge: False records (Magnuson-Stevens)Court: U.S. District Court, D. MaineState: MaineDocket: The Black Market

Did those running the herring boat knowingly fail to file the truthful catch reports federal law requires?

The facts

Herring is the bait the lobster fishery runs on. Over three years the owner, captains and crew of one herring boat sold more than two and a half million pounds that never appeared in any report to the regulator. Crew took payment directly from fish dealers and from lobster boat operators. The law requires a trip report naming the species, the weight and the buyer.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
