United States v. Seleznev (2016)

Charge: Wire fraud, intentional damage to a protected computer, obtaining information from a protected computer, possession of unauthorised access devices and aggravated identity theftCourt: U.S. District Court, W.D. Wash.State: WashingtonDocket: System Breach

The facts

A man from overseas broke into the payment terminals of hundreds of small American businesses, among them pizza shops and restaurants. He installed software that copied each customer's card details as the card was swiped. He then sold the card numbers in bulk on online markets used by criminals. When he was arrested, his laptop held more than one and a half million stolen card numbers. Thousands of banks lost money. He faced thirty-eight counts and went to trial rather than plead.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
