The Cash-Only Pain Clinic

United States v. Volkman (2015)

Charge: Unlawful distribution of controlled substances, including distribution resulting in deathCourt: U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth CircuitState: OhioDocket: Bad Medicine

The facts

A doctor with a medical degree and a PhD in pharmacology worked at a cash-only pain clinic, earning thousands of dollars a week. When local pharmacies refused to fill his prescriptions because the doses looked wrong, he opened a dispensary inside the clinic. Records were sloppy and the clinic bought huge amounts of oxycodone. He later opened his own practice, where several patients died. He says he ran a legitimate pain practice and that the government cannot prove his prescriptions actually caused the deaths.

You have the facts the court had. Guilty or not guilty? Call it in the game with your friends, then see what the court actually decided. Wrong call, you drink.
